Grand Blanc- Ryan Jahn of Jupiter, Florida is a Floridian in name only. You see, Jahn grew up in Grand Blanc and moved to the Sunshine State when he was ten. He still visits the area and Warwick Hills is a home away from home. After shooting an opening round 73 he followed it up with an even par 72 to hold a one shot lead going into the final round of the Randy Wise Open. Jahn started off steady with pars on seven of his first nine holes but a double bogey on number four gave him a wakeup call. Jahn birdied four of the next seven holes before a detour on 18 where he had to chip up the ninth fairway and then back to 18 gave him a final round of 72. "I'm in the hunt and am glad to play with Sam Weatherhead,' said Jahn.

The Sam he is referring to is 2012 Mr. Golf Sam Weatherhead (Grand Rapids). He entered day "two of the AJGA at Warwick Hills, knowing by experience that day two of the event is moving day. So what did he do, he moved from a 75 to a 71 and trails Jahn by one with 18 holes to play.

Weatherhead has had an outstanding 2012 winning medalist honors in Division Three at MSU in June and just last week, was nominated and received a distinguished Faces in the Crowd mention in Sports Illustrated. Add qualifying as medalist for the USGA Junior Amateur shooting a 73-66 earlier this summer and you have an idea that Sam has game. His plan of attack for day three is simple.  "Here at Warwick, keeping the ball in play between the trees," said Weatherhead. "Every single hole is lined with majestic oak trees and if you can keep it (the ball) between that, you can go  pretty low."

One player that moved backwards was Patrick Luther of Novi. He played a steady round until coming apart on the last three holes shooting four over par. Saying that, he is only three back as he is tied with Alex Dombrowski of Gaylord (73-75-148) and Reed Hrynewich of Muskegon. For Reed Hrynewich, he knows all about going low at Warwick Hills. He put together a final round of 69 last year but believes he better go low."For me, I'm going to need something in the 60's," said Hrynewich

He was joined by Alex Kleckner of Commerce Township opened with a 75 but an 84 put the brakes on his title hopes. His round was summed up by nearly acing the 192 par-three 17th, but his ball rolled off the green on the backside and a perfectly struck chip missed the hole by an inch and trickled 15 feet past the hole. He bogeyed. "I just played bogey golf today, said Kleckner who is playing in his first AJGA event. The strong field saw 49 out of 72 golfers shoot 79 or better.

Jillian Hollis Leads the Girls

For the girls, it was also moving day on day 2 and the results gave the tournament a new leader. Jillian Hollis (Ohio)  overtook Jessica Porvasnik (Ohio) after shooting (74-73) to give her a lead of one over three golfers who are only a shot back. Emily Mills  (New Jersey), and Ayaka Suzuki (Florida) Michigan girls who are in contention include Hannah Lewis Plainwell (81-73) Jacqueline Setas of East Lansing (81-73) and Julia Montgomery of Shelby Township (76-79) who are still in the hunt going into the final day.
