AJGA Junior Golf Tournament has Plenty of Top Players at Warwick Hills

Henry Do Wants to Win this Tournament for the 3rd
Straight Time
Let's start by saying that the Randy Wise AJGA Open at Warwick Hills has most of the top high school amateur players playing in the 54 hole tournament this week. Naming who is not participating is a much shorter list to check off but we will identify those who have entered and what may happen for a fun three days of top notch junior golf.

Nearly half of the 64 player boys field will be represented by Michigan players including two-time defending champion Henry Do. Do no longer plays high school golf so this will be a great opportunity to see him test his skills where he capped off a one two-shot deficit on hole 18 and a laser like iron where he birdied the hole in conjunction of a bogey by the leader (Michael Nagy) gave him a tie and then a birdie on the first sudden death hole for the win.

Otto Black of Pinckney just came off a runner-up finish in the Michigan Amateur Match Play lines it up and so does Brandon Barrows of Lake Orion. Charlie Green of Novi Catholic Central (Novi) is in the field and former Division 3 Champion Aaron Knutson (Lake Orion) will appear as will several underclassman such as Alex Waelchli (Clarkston), Jeremy Ball (Bloomfield Hills) and Kyle Gaines of Oxford. Also appearing is Max Kollin (Farmington Hills).

Top outstate players include Alex Dombrowski (Gaylord) Blaze Hogan (Big Rapids) Max Rispler (Alto) and Reed Hrynewich (Muskegon) who led the tournament after the early round in 2011.

Out of state players dot the tournament and they come from Texas, Florida and Georgia.  to keep an eye on include Jackson Deazel (Ga.), Will Seger, (Jasper, Ind.) and Rodrigo Munoz (Fla.)

Tournament Predictions: This tournament is pretty wide open but there are several players that should be near locks for the top ten.

In no particular order, Sam Weatherhead is the Division 3 Michigan 2012 MHSAA Champion, Mr. Golf and comes off shooting 69 and 69 at MSU East and was just placed as an up and comer in Faces in the Crowd in Sports Illustrated. He finished down the list last year 79-82-77 (tie-31st) last year as a sophmore but he is a breakthrough player and should put up a battle.

Henry Do is the two-time defending champion and without a doubt would love to make Warwick Hills his personal playground. I am not sure where he has been sharpening his irons but he will be there.

So should Max Kollin. He put the finishing touches on signing with Indiana and became a Hoosier last fall. He plays well in AJGA events and finished fourth in the 2011 tournament. He is a clutch player and if he is at the top of his game, he will give any of the other players all they can handle.

Reed Hyrnewich of Muskegon should be there as well and could very well win this tournament. He produced scores of 73-77-69 (3rd) last year and lead after the opening 18 holes. Keeping his cool is essential. If he had shot par instead of 77, Do would not have had his last hole magic seal the deal.

Otto Black of Pinckney is another golfer that could pull out a victory and it would not surprise me. He carded scores of  75-76-73 (T-7th) and finished as runner-up in his tuneup for the Randy Wise Tournament last week.

Bailey Truesdell of Grand Blanc knows all about Warwick Hills and for a spell (74-70-77) and led after the second day before his final round fade gave him a finish of T-5. I would not be surprised is he improves his final round score and is in the final group.

Others, Aaron Knutson, Jeremy Ball, Brandon Barrows could make a run if they are playing at the top of their games.

I have not seen the out-of-state golfers and they could easily make some noise. If you have comments, place them below.

Course Tips
The golf course places a premium on driving the ball in the fairway and good club selection coming into the green. The greens are very large and fast; the false fronts on many greens will also offer a challenge! About the Course
The greens at Warwick Hills are the crown jewel of the golf course. The PGA TOUR players consistently placed Warwick Hills putting greens among the best on tour.
