In a day where it heavily rained and delayed play for nearly four hours, players surveyed the very wet Warwick Hills Course and wondered if the constant rain would leave a playable golf course. Nick Carlson of Hamilton Michigan probably wondered the same starting off with a bogey after playing the 567 yard par five first. He didn’t wonder after posting four birdies in his round of 69. “I was having fun, embracing it and taking it all in,” Carlson said. “I've always dreamed of winning. This win booms my confidence. It is really sweet to win one of these.”  It was enough to tie Ryan Jahn of Jupiter, Fla., (formerly of Grand Blanc) who carded a solid 73 after opening up with a 73-72 and played strong golf all week. The two played four rounds of sudden death golf at the AJGA Randy Wise Open and finally Nick Carlson prevailed. Will Seger of Jasper, Ind., finished in third place and this future Indiana Hoosier golfer put together five birdies and a bogey to pull off a 68, the low round of the tournament (73-78-68). For Reed Hrynewich of Muskegon (UMich.) he was confident he would go low after day two and his 69 last year gave him hope. “I’m still in it,” he said. He put together round of (77-71-71) and finished fourth. 2012 Mr. Golf Sam Weatherhead fell to a (75-71-81) and Oakland County golfers Patrick Luther of Novi (84), Kyle Gaines of Oxford (80 ) and Aaron Knutson of Lake Orion (80) all took a tumble down the final leader board. Max Kollin of Farmington Hills, finished his final AJGA event tied for 27th.(79-76-76) Alex Waelchli of Clarkston played solid all week and finished 12th and his final score of 77-75-74 will help him as he moves forward.

For the girls, this tournament started off round three with 12 girls within seven strokes of the second round leader Jillian Hollis of Rocky River, Ohio. Hollis struggled on the day as her (38-41-79) would attest. She had six bogeys and a double bogey in her round and her lone birdie came late on 16 and she finished fourth. That left room Muni He (China) Pitt Meadows B.C enough room to work her magic. Consecutive birdies on the fifth and sixth holes and three more on the back nine got her rolling and she added three more for five birdies on the day and her (76-74-69) gave her a four shot win. Not only is her 69 amazing, He is only 13-years-old winning against players who have already signed college letters of intent. First round leader Jessica Porvasnik of Hinckley, Ohio, finished in second at 3-over-par 75 for a tournament total of 7-over-par 223. Locally, Julia Montgomery of Shelby Township finished 12th (76-79-81).

As for boys champion Nick Carlson, “The last couple days my putting was off so I practiced a lot after the rounds and today my putting was really working for me,” He said. “This is my first AJGA win and I'm just so proud of myself and happy with how I played. It just really means a lot to me.”
