Indianwood Country Club is Honoring our Veterans with Free Golf on July 11th

The Military Will be Honored at this Years U.S. Senior Open

Once in a while I get to pass on some truly outstanding information and this qualifies as exactly that. Indianwood CC in conjunction with the USGA is offering a free round of golf to all military personnel whether active or retired at the U.S. Senior Open on Wednesday July 11th. The practive round is not only free but happens the day before the tournament begins next month at the historic club.
The 16th hole will have the American flag pin along with Army attendants to celebrate our military personnel.

As part of the tournaments strategy to celebrate those that protect our freedoms, the U.S. ARMY DETROIT ARSENAL based out of Warren will kick off the 33rd U.S. Senior Open Championship July 9 at the course. In order to take advantage of the opportunity, military identification must be presented at the course and personnel are automatically invited to watch the practice round for free. All spectacors will have free parking for the event and all children are admitted to the tournament for free.

“I am proud that Indianwood and the USGA are able to provide this kind of recognition and have Army participation at the U.S. Senior Open Championship,” remarked Keith Aldridge, General Manager for Indianwood Golf and Country Club and U.S. Senior Open Championship Director. “This is the type of community involvement and spirit unique to the sport of golf and one that really hits home here in Michigan.”

The really nice touch will happen on the 16th hole. The flag at the hole will be replaced with an American flag.  When golfers approach the green, one of the caddies will deliver the flag to a local Soldier who will hold the flag at attention – “tend the pin” – and keep the flag safely off the ground. Caddies will replace the flag as groups move the 17th tee. Both military and the public with a paid ticket will see some of golfs all- time greats featuring Fred Couples, Tom Watson, Tom Kite and Mark O’Meara will be vying for the U.S. Senior Open on a timeless, Wilfred Reid-designed Golden Age course that opened in 1925. Reid also designed The Olympic Club in San Francisco, site of the recently completed U.S. Open. For more information, visit www.USGA.org
