Max Kollin Kicking Up His Heels at AJGA in Indiana

The last time I wrote about Max Kollin of North Farmington he birdied the first hole of sudden death at Katke Cousins to become a Michigan State Medalist in the Division One Finals in Rochester. While some of you may think that golf is a two month sport for the best players in Michigan, that is simply a guess that is dead wrong. The best golfers in Michigan according to many coaches in Michigan participate in AJGA tournaments and they take place all over the country. Because I bring up Kollin and other golfers with Michigan ties you expect me to tell you about another Kollin victory to go along with his honors described above and at Pontiac Country Club where he finished with a victory at the County championships in May. Instead, while Kollin was impressive, you had better go low and

Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Adam Wood of Zionsville, Indiana each had three day totals of (-11) and lapped the field where Wood finally won in sudden death to win the latest AJGA tournament in the midwest. Players in the AJGA attract college coaches around the country who sign players from this tour after a courting process. How does Kollin fit into this puzzle? He shot a 74-75-65 and finished seven shots behind the leaders. Kollin's 65 was a case of "how low can you go" and while he went low, one other player shot 65 and Mason Carmel of Bethesda, Maryland  shot a PGA Tour like number of 62. Other local golfers participating in the tournament include Otto Black of Pinckney who finished in a tie for 19th place and Lucas Belanger of Clarkston missed the cut. In all, nearly a dozen Michigan golfers participated in the tournament. A complete rundown appears below. The golfers participate locally at Warwick Hills, starting August 22nd through the 25th at the Randy Wise Open.
