The Top 50 Junior Tour made a pair of stops at The Fox Hills Golden Fox
Golf Course to play a qualifier and a one day tournament. While local players
cleaned up on qualifying day, Daniel Ault of Lansing snuck in to win medalist
honors at the Les Stanford Classic. Ault hasn't played in many Top 50
tournaments but he made this one count with a two over score of 74 at a very
tough golf course. With weather nor really a factor as it has in so many
playing days this year, Ault's steady round of two birdies and 12 pars simply
wore the field down as he bested Jamie Stanton Jr. of Rochester Hills. He
nearly matched Ault shot for shot and was only two over after six holes and
when his birdie on the 398-yard par four 7th brought him to one over, it looked
like Stanton could pull out medalist honors. But he bogeyed the eighth to once
again move to two over and four more bogeys on the back nine gave him his

The Les Stanford Stop only had two of the top 25 players in points place in the
top ten and Matthew Goldi of Farmington Hills had his mind to improve his point
total with a strong finish. Goldi came into the tournament ranked in the top
five in Tour points and with many of the top 25 sitting this one out, he wanted
to put himself in prime position to move up the season ranking list with a top
finish. His game plan worked nearly perfectly in the opening holes. He opened
with five consecutive pars but then hit a wall with three straight bogeys
before a birdie on number nine. A double on number ten moved him to four over
and he settled for a tie for second place with Stanton. Local players from the
west side claimed most of the other top spots and the leader board and
standings is posted below. For the girls, the race was between three girls.
Ellen Miller of Beverly Hills, Kelsey McDougall (Canton) and Natalie Blazo
(Dearborn). Miller put together an uneven round including six pars and three
double bogeys and an 87 was good enough for third place in the tournament. Kelsey
McDougal started out very strong and carded six pars on the front side. But
then the wheels came off and her ten over par score on the back side brought
her to a scoreboard faceoff with Blazo. Her 85 looked pretty good but Natalie Blazo started off her round with four
pars. From there she had two double bogeys and another bogey to go five over.
From there, she finished with an 82 and was good for medalist honors. With the
win, Blazo has increased her Top 50 lead to a commanding 126 points with just a
few tournaments to go in the summer season.
