When Tommy Prato stepped onto the course at Pontiac Country Club he had the confidence he could win the latest Top 50 Jr. Tour stop.  You see, he won earlier this week at Eagle Crest GC located near Ann Arbor and there is nothing better than getting on a roll. " I kept it in play and made a bunch of birdies on the back." But the key for Prato was the third hole. His eagle on the par-5  475 yard hole where he stuck his second shot to within three feet and calmly rolled it in for an early round boost.
Prato couldn't count on a second straight victory. At Eagle Crest Guy Frydenlund of Ann Arbor lost to Prato by a single stroke in the two day event and as luck would have it, Frydenlund shot a 75, only one stroke behind Prato's winning score.  At Pontiac Country Club, course management is just as important as coming out of your shoes with big drives at the 6,360 yard course. Prato had four birdies on the back nine at 10, 12, 14, and 17  but back-to-back bogeys down the stretch at 16 and 17 left the door open for Eric Busa of Rochester Hills, who ended up tied for second with Frydenlund.  Busa, a Senior. this upcoming school year for Rochester Adams, carded a 75 and with temperatures approaching 100 degrees, his goal was simple. "I think staying dry is obviously the key, I mean if you are slipping all over the place and you will not be able to hold onto the club and stay focused," he said.  Prato is the points leader for the age 16 to 18 boys for the Top 50 Jr. Tour and extended his lead in both points and stroke average for the 2012 season.  In all eight of19 players in this age group recorded scores in the 70's. The Top 50 Tour next stops for a 36 hole event at Katke Cousins at Oakland University July 9th-10th.

For the girls, things were much more clear cut. Kathleen Kennedy of West Bloomfield was the only girl to post a score around par and her 73 was seven shots better than her closest competitor Amanda Graham of Rochester Hills.

Kathleen Kennedy of West Bloomfield was the only girl to post a score around par and her 73 was seven shots better than her closest competitor Amanda Graham of Rochester Hills. Kennedy recently graduated from Walled Lake Central and said her shot of the day happened on the 13th hole. "My eagle when I holed it from around 70 yards so that was pretty cool," said Kennedy.
