     The most exciting thing about the Michigan Golf Show was the thousands of people spending money at the Michigan Golf Show this past weekend. Over 250 retailers were there hawking not only golf vacations, weekend getaways and leagues but equipment blowouts were also to be had. One retailer was blowing out Bushnell tracking devices for $39.99 and this was the best deal of the weekend in my mind.

     The Michigan golf industry was beset by bad weather and a bad economy last year but several retailers are encluraged by what they saw at the golf show. The large line of online software companies looking to book your tee times at a discount mean golfers should be able to get a good deal on greens fees and course owners basically sell time and an unfilled tee time slot is lost revenue forever so discounted fees are better than an empty sheet.

There are several golf tours available for adults and they offer competition for those that want scratch competition or those that want the security of using their handicap. We will have interviews and more information on those shortly.

     The USGA has a ticket buying opportunity for those that would like to attend the US Open being held at Merion Country Club in 2013. Merion last held a US Open in 1981 and due to modern advances in equipment, this may be the last US Open to be held at the club. The Championship will be held in Ardmore, Pa. on June 10-16 and only 25,000 tickets will be sold each day which is much lower than many US Opens.
