Is Oakland Hills Country Club on Track to Host 2020 US Open?

As Indianwood Country Club is on track to host the 2012 Senior PGA next year it begs the question, when will the best in the world test themselves in the State of Michigan? The PGA Tour has not visited the State of Michigan since 1999 when the Buick Open ended its long run at Warwick Hills and several clubs have been mentioned as possible places for the tour to resume in our state. Even though Michigan supports the PGA Tour by the tens of thousands when the tour comes here and has some of the best places to golf collectively bar none throughout the US, no one has been able to close the deal to bring big time golf back to the mitten state.

Rumor is Oakland Hills has thrown their hat in the ring to hold the next open date available by the USGA and if they are successful, they will host their 7th US Open last won by the ordinary Steve Jones in 1996. This club cemented its place in golf history holding 13 major championships or USGA events including the Ryder Cub in 2004. We won't talk about that. Ben Hogan's immortal phrase " I brought this monster to its knees" is a catch phrase anytime anyone thinks about winning a major championship at the club and the 16th hole surrounded by the pond doesn't hurt. Oakland Hills will host the U.S. Amateur in 2016 and perhaps can collect its next caveat just four years later.

Do you have a favorite Oakland Hills memory? If so, send a comment and the two best ones selected by me will score a bogo to play at a metro park course anytime in 2011.
